Coaching Tips for Bring a Friend Day Preschool Gymnastics:

Before the warm up, the instructor should explain briefly the class format for friend day as it is different from a regular class. Class format: Warm up and stretch. Follow the circuits and stations on one side of the gym. Half way through the class switch and do activities set up on the other side of the gym. Call the children back for the bells activity and closing song. Announce to the parents that they need to be responsible for their friends and should explain safety rules on equipment.

It is important for Social and emotional development to provide opportunities for children to be a leader/teacher to their peers. Set up double circuits and obstacle courses for partners to go through together.  In each circuit there is a partner social activity station.

Eg. Hugging, rolling, partner balances, “Ring Around The Rosie” jumping holding hands.  The children will demonstrate and tell their friends how and what to do on the equipment and in the circuits.
