James’ Success Story:
A little over a year ago James began trampolining at Gymtastics from 12:00 to 1:00 under the supervision of his gymnastics coach Joe.
At first James would bounce10-15 times then have a ‘break’ in the foam pit for three to five minutes. Little by little Joe encouraged James and James was able to bounce for three, 10 minute-sessions with breaks in between.
By Month Two James was ‘bouncing’ non-stop for 20-30 minutes then taking a break. Fast-forward six months and James was bouncing higher and for 35-40 minutes with a break at the END of his one-hour session.
Did we mention James is a 20-something year old young man with an Autism Spectrum Disorder? He is.
Since beginning to ‘bounce’ at Gymtastics the list of benefits James has received grows. His health has improved. James sessions involve trampolining for all but five minutes in the foam pit at the end. He has lost over 25 lbs. He identifies his Monday and Wednesday noon hours with bouncing and has it programmed into a communication device he uses daily. James, who does not always willingly take the initiative to communicate with people, often comes up to Joe or June Bug or other staff to say hello.
James’ world and lifestyle have expanded because of the opportunity this has provided. James looks forward to Gymtastics and will let those who support him know of his concern if there is a change in schedule.
To say James’ involvement in trampolining is a success story would be a huge understatement. It has become an integral part of his life. His family and those who care for him are grateful for all it does for him and look forward to this relationship to continue for a long time.
